Careful, I am beginning to look at this as a personal threat, Skinmonkey.
Your first couple posts were amusing, leave it at that. Continue and you may
learn of the wrath of an Arcadian Noble. This is not a threat, just a
statement of how far I can be pushed before losing my cool. People should be
nice to one another. I've been nice. Follow my example.

Why? They don't speak Arabic in Iran. They speak Farsi.

Actually, I doubt you'd see "dumps" much beyond TL-8 or 9. The
*materials* in "garbage" become to valuable, especially on airless
worlds or worlds with atmmospheres that can't be breathed without aid.

Recycling will be "normal". So whether it's breaking things down into
raw materials, or re-using "old" subassemblies (ie cases and card from
those PCs), you won't see a lot of "trash" lying around.

Even if you restrict this attitude to the worlds that don't have
"shirtsleeve" environments, it has some nice hooks for play:

1. PC for a "shirtsleeve world gets arrested/ticketed for "improper
disposal". Maybe he tossed metal trash in the organic trash bin.
Maybe he dumped food trash in something other than the "compostable"
bin. You get the idea. And remember, this applies to ship's trash as
well. It'll need to be seperated properly *or* pay the extra fees
   (fines) for not being seperated.

2. PC (or NPC) from a "non-shirtsleeve" world keeps driving the other
characters nuts by being so "picky" about environmental maintenance,
   trash disposal, recycling, etc.

3. Contracts to haul stuff not easily recyclable on world to world
where it can be. This could be something simple like stuff made from
"exotic" composite materials. Or it could be "hazardous waste". If
the players don't ask enough questions they could be sorry.

4. Hauling "recycled" equipment/components. This would be the
equivalent of that "dig the low TL gear out of the high-TL trash"
scenario above. Except that there are probably people or companies
that make a living by hauling off "obsolete" gear, stripping out the
usable assemblies (which in some cases could be the entre unit) and
tacking them for sale offworld. Essentially, the return of of the
"junkman" job, except higher tech. The players may wind up hauling
tons of auto parts. Or lower TL computer parts.

5. hauling "low value" recyclables to places where they can be recycled
at higher prices. For example, there's a "window" from about TL 6 or
7 to TL 9 ot 10 (guessestimate) where iron and steel are only
recyclable if they are free most "contaminants *such as other
metals). This is because the "new" steel making processes are
sensitive to impurities. So stuff like "crushed car bodies" isn't
worth much (that's why there are *reefs* made of old car bodies in
some places). But at lower TL worlds, "iron is iron", And they'll
   pay well for this "junk".
Given starship load limits, I'd expect such "scrap" cargos to
*not* be crushed, because the buyers will pay more if they can get
at things like wiring to get the copper. At *their* tech level, it's
cost effective to pay people to strip that sort of thing out by
hand. So you'd have an old car frame stuffed with old refrigerator
and washer/dryer carcasses, stuffed with other sheetmetal cases. And
this will sell well at TL 5 and below. Clear down to early iron age
cultures. After all, just consider what a medieval smith would pay
for that much iron, with the copper wiring as a bonus (once his
   apprentices strip it out).

Shouldn't this creature's parents be admonished? It can't capitalize, form
complete sentences, and finds amusement in the most infantile activities. If
this is the future of the human species, Traveller is a fantasy game. Well,
I always thought that anyways. I doubt Skinmonkeys will ever leave their
solar system.

Well, some people certainly do, but not many! Gulf Spoken Arabic has an
estimated 200,000 speakers in Iran, and Mesopotamian Spoken Arabic has
1,200,000 speakers. They're in the minority though. In '93 about 25,300,000
(just a smidge over 50%) of the population spoke Farsi, the national
language.

Subject: Re- World Builder Deluxe

Okay, now to put forward the official point of view.

Derrick Jones' take on the subject is 100% correct, WBD is based on MT
rules.

The rules for extended system generation state:-

33 Population

Roll 2d-2 for Population. If inner zone, DM-5. If outer zone, DM-3.

and;

39 Satellite Population

Roll 2d-2 for Population. If inner zone, DM-5. If outer zone, DM-4. If size
0-4, DM-2. If size R, Population is 0. If Atmosphere is not 5, 6, or 8,
DM-2.

Both these equations could create a subordinate population which is greater
than the base/mainworld. population.

However, I do agree that it makes perfect sense for subordinate worlds and
satellites to have a population less than the mainworld.

I am presently working on a new version of WBD which will streamline the
program. I plan to provide support for MT, TNE, T4 & GURPS. I don't have the
appropriate CT rules, but if someone provides me with extracts from the
relevant books I will be happy to look into incorporating them into the
program.

I am keen to get everyone's input on the existing system and world
generation rules. Anyone interested should join the WBD Mailing List at:-

http://www.onelist.com/viewarchive.cgi?listname=WBDMailingList

Sort of.. it's not at all canon, and IMHO not very good, but if you're a
collector it's worth three bucks.

Thanks Doug. I'm not too worried about canon. :) But it looked really
wierd with its dark red cover and little book size. Plus I had never seen
or heard of it before in anyone's list of traveller stuff.

SORAG was a pretty cool little book when it came out. Secret societies and
double agents had not been covered in Traveller, indeed not much in gaming,
at that point. Later canon changed the name of the organization and much of
the background. I still use SORAG and the Scouts & Assassins books still
because of familiarity (and personal bias) versus the GDW equivalents.

Dear Sirs/Ma'ams,

This is an additional email requesting your assistance dealing with
the user "Ukkie" (het@mailandnews.com). This person is being
generally abusive and hostile on a mailing list. First of all,
his/her account appears to be generating constant annoying and
insulting autoreplies to the list, as shown by the email reproduced

promptly threatened to mailbomb both the list and its members, as
shown below under "2." I request that you ensure this twit cannot
carry out his/her infantile threats, nor continue to bother normal
persons any further. Thank you.

I have changed the password and disabled the auto-reply feature of this
account. I am out of the office today, but this should hold until Monday
when I can properly delete this idiot. Thanks for your information. Now I
will go tell all other people who complained about this user. :) Thanks
again.

Subject: MISSED ORIGINAL POST!!! RE: More Art

Hey guys, due to the recent list hiccup, I missed the original post. Can
someone forward to me so I can see what you're talking about?

On another note, I'm seriously considering putting together a Traveller
artwork resource center. Thoughts?

Best,
Jesse
